Life Motivation

We all need a little motivation from time to time.  Our lives have ups and downs, highs and lows.  It is our goal to make the highs longer and the lows shorter.  I've found a few ways to make these lows shorter that I want to share with you.  These five ways will give your life the motivation it needs to burst through those annoying plateaus and reach new heights!

#1: Face a Fear

I was going to put this one off a bit, but it's too important.  Conquering a fear is the biggest thing responsible for recharging my own life.  In fact, I conquered a huge fear in such a big way that my entire life changed.  Now, that very fear is something I do every single day and love it.  What once was my fear, has now become my life.

But this isn't about me.  I want you to think of something you are afraid of doing.  I don't mean I want you to pet a spider if you are afraid of spiders.  I mean think BIG.  What do you think could make your life more exciting that you are currently afraid to try.

Stumped?  Maybe I can offer a few suggestions to spark your thinking:

Singing, dancing, public speaking, speaking to someone important, talking to a crush (or whatever the kids are calling it these days), pitching an idea to someone, taking a martial arts class, skydiving, mountain climbing, etc. etc.

I'll come clean now.  The first one I listed was mine.  I used to be deathly afraid of singing (or even humming!) in front of people.  Then I took a voice lesson and the rest is history.  Now, I am planning my life as a rock star.  I'm not kidding.  I love singing and entertaining.  I love performing in front of people.  Sure, I still get a little nervous from time to time, but the thrill when I'm doing it is awesome!  I cannot even describe the feeling when I'm done.  And I never would have discovered any of this had I not faced my fears.

So take a chance.  Face your fears and see what happens.  It may simply give you a thrill, or it may change your whole life.

#2: Exercise in a Way You Haven't Before

Yes, I'm a fitness guy, but this is not something only meant for health freaks.  In fact, I'm not a big fan of working out myself.  I do it because I know it's good for me, but I don't really like it.  OK, confession aside, infusing a new workout strategy can really put the charge back in your life.

For an example, recently I started doing some crazy interval training.  I alternate period of 30 seconds of intense kettlebell work with 60 seconds of monderate intensity on the elliptical.  This workout really gets my heart rate going, blood pumping, and sweat pouring.  It feels amazing!  And the feeling I get when I'm done is incredible.  It feels like I really accomplished something special.

If you don't currently exercise, try going for a brisk walk in the park.  Go hiking or biking.  If you do work out, try something new.  Try a spin class.  Try a boxing class.  Try a dance class.  Go mountain climbing.  Think of something creative and give it a try.  Just break up the monotony and give yourself a thrill.

#3: Learn Something New

New knowledge can be very exciting. Think of the last time you learned something new. It probably gave you a nice boost in confidence. It also likely gave you something cool to talk about with your friends. Maybe you even made some new friends in the process.

Knowledge opens up new doors in your life. I know, I sound like an NBC public service announcement, but it's true. Knowledge is power (remember those?)! Is there anything you've always wanted to learn, but never could find the time to do it?

Now is the time! Maybe you'll pick up a new hobby. Maybe you'll find a new way to make some extra cash (MSI baby!).

Perhaps you'll simply make yourself a more interesting person. That's not such a bad thing, is it? So start learning something new today and see what it does for your life.

#4: Write Something Different

A lot of the people who read this are writers in some capacity.  This kinda sucks because I know my grammar in this piece is not very good.  But all jokes aside, writers can easily get bored of writing, especially if they write about the same things over and over and over.

So, if you need a little life motivation, write something different.  If you always write about science, write about sports.  If you always write about morals, write a risque short story.  If you always write about politics, write about morals.

If you always write about serious stuff, write something with humor.  If you always write non-fiction, try your hand at a fictional short story.  Write a screenplay.  Write a poem.  Heck, write a song or a jingle.

Just write something different.  This will get your creative juices flowing and put a little spark in your writing.

If you aren't a writer, then write something.  Write about your life.  Write about someone else's life.  Write about Bob Saget.  I don't care, just write something.  Be creative and have some fun with it.  Yes, writing can be a lot of fun.  This section of this article was a lot of fun for me to write, so I don't care if you hate it!

#5: Be crazy!

You may notice a common theme in this life motivation tips series. If you need to recharge your life, it's probably a good idea to try something different. I've given you all sorts of ideas of things you can do differently, but none is as cool as this last tip.

Be crazy!

Now, you may well be crazy already. OK, then be crazier!

Oft-times we will restrict our fun by keeping ourselves in our comfort zone, or by conforming ourselves to societies standards of normalcy. Well, I decided a long time ago that I don't give a flying saucer what society thinks of me.

The only way to get what you want in life is to be bold. <---See what I did there.

Seriously, the only way to reach your greatest of dreams is to be bold. Often, bold means crazy. Not loony-bin crazy, but I'm talking about stepping outside of what society deems "normal".

Normal is no fun. Normal makes you want to recharge your life. Normal makes me seem cool.

If your life needs some recharging, don't do what people normally do. Do something crazy!

And let yourself have a little fun. It's good for you!
